"Business Meeting followed by Program-The Beauty of Underwater Photography"
by Andrew Martinez-MA
Monday, September 29, 7:15 PMAll the members of the Lynn Camera Club are photographers and I look forward to speaking to them. Tonight’s presentation will begin with a brief introduction to photography underwater. It will highlight the challenges that make underwater photography more complicated, more challenging, but ultimately more magical than topside photography. Then we will see the variety of creatures that the marine world has from huge whales to tiny corals. Sit back and enjoy the show.
Andrew Martinez has an extensive photojournalism background. His work has appeared in most nature, travel, and dive magazines in the United States and in similar publications around the globe. He authored a popular New England field guide, Marine Life of the North Atlantic, photo-documenting marine life from Cape May, NJ, to Canada. It has been converted into a mobile app, Marine Life – North Atlantic. He has collaborated with French Canadian author, Pierre Henry Fountaine, on a new edition of La Faune Sous-Marine du Saint-Laurent, a field guide to marine life in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, Quebec, Canada. He has teamed up with local author Paul Erickson and Tilbury House Publishers to create two books for young readers, Pier at the End of the World and Don’t Mess with Me- The strange lives of Venomous Creatures.
Currently his work is used in many other nature books and field guides. His photos are featured in exhibits in many aquaria in the United States and Canada. Photo assignments sponsored by National Geographic World Magazine have taken him to sites in Fiji, Bonaire, and Cape Cod. He has guided Marine Biology study and photo groups to the islands of Galapagos, Cayman, St. Vincent, the Bay Islands of Honduras, the Philippines, and Indonesia. He is represented by the two photo stock agencies, Science Source and Blue Planet Archive.
