Monday, March 9, 7:30 PMThis is a presentation of many of the areas nature photography opportunities as experienced by Jake in recent years. While it is based on one person’s encounters, it is a guide for what is available to the photographer with patience, persistence and a love of nature. Subjects range from magnificent mammals and specactular bird life to visually pleasing botany. Along with the more spectacular creatures will be insects and little details of the natural world that are available to the discerning eye. Also included are a few basic tips for the entry level photographer.
A number of the example images are successful PSA Nature exhibition works. Locations, equipment and subject matter will be reviewed. Ipswich River Town Park -N. Reading, Harold Parker State Forest- Andover-No. Andover, Saugus River, Great Meadows NWR- Concord, Audubon Ipswich River -Topsfield , Parker River -aka Plum Island NWR -Newburyport, Salisbury State Res.- Salisbury along with backyard photography are explored. The audience will be able to ask questions and comment during the presentation.
Our speaker is a serious amateur photographer who has been obsessed with photography for the past 30 years. He has earned photographic honors from the Photographic Society of America -PSA, and the New England Camera Club Council -NECCC for both his skills with the camera and his efforts on behalf of the photographic community.
Jake has been the recipient of the “Stuyvesant Peabody Memorial Award†for his significant contributions to pictorial photography through exhibiting, lecturing, writing and teaching, given by the Photographic Society of America.
He is a past chairman of PSA’s Nature Division, past chairman of PSA’s Ethics committee, past President and Honorary Life Vice-President of the Greater Lynn Photographic Association and past President and current Vice President on the New England Camera Club Council. Jake is also a member and past Chairman of Massachusetts Camera Naturalists -CamNats, a by invitation only organization dedicated to the art and teaching of nature photography. He has judged and lectured on photography throughout the Northeast and for various photographic organizations in the U.S. and Canada. His work has been published in various magazines and calendars; the most recently being a macro photo of ‘Ghost Pipes’ in the Nature Photographer magazine.
Jake is most at home in the field with camera in hand, but he finds great satisfaction in teaching the techniques and vision he has learned through experience and the kindness of other sharing photographers.
