"Photographic Art Through the Use of Textures and Blending Modes"
by Karen Choi - MA
Monday, January 6, 7:30 PM

This presentation is on the use of textures and blend modes to create artistic depth within your photographic images. Our speaker, Karen Choi has broken down her program into three segments. First she will talk about developing a texture library for you to use, demonstrating the process of creating your own textures versus downloading textures from third parties. Next she will show us how to add textures to our images and how the texture can be controlled for a subtle effect, or how you can use the layering of multiple textures to be a major artistic element in your final image. Karen will also demonstrate how blend modes and opacity settings are critical factors in making composites and textural images. Finally she will show finishing effects including the use of vignettes and NIK Color Effex Pro to polish the final image

Karen has been a member of Greater Lynn since 2009 where she competes in both Print and Digital competitions at the Masters Class level. Prior to joining Greater Lynn she was a member of Merrimack Valley Camera Club for 2 years. She majored in Art in College before majoring in Business Management and is employed as a Senior Vice President of Management and HR Services for the Associated Industries of Massachusetts. In 2005 she got her first DSLR and a copy of Photoshop and her artistic focus moved from oil and watercolor painting to photography. She loves shooting portraits, HDR photography, architecture, flowers and making creative images. Our speaker feels that Photoshop and various other programs such as Color Effex Pro, HDR Effex Pro and Imagenomics give her the opportunity to push her photography to create visual art.

She has won numerous medals and awards both at Greater Lynn, Interclub Competitions, and in International Exhibitions. She states 'she appreciates the willingness of so many talented photographers who have generously shared their expertise and knowledge through Greater Lynn, Merrimack Valley Camera Club and the New England Camera Club Council'. Please join us for this informative teaching presentation.
